Pleasurable
route especially for those who like demanding uphill roads,
the tract C, is varied and satisfactory. Can be traveled in
any season without the risk of encountering mud as the roads
are well beaten.

A (14 Km)
Starting from Sansepolcro you travel along the state road
Tiberina 3 bis in the direction Pieve Santo Stefano, the old
road now replaced by the E45, is in the direction of the dam of Montedoglio, and a good part of the tract is along
the
lake. The road is tarred and after 3 km from the centre of
town there are three uphill tracts short but tract which is
submersed under the lake. From here we continue on a flat
road until you see on the right a deviation which will take
you past industrial ware houses to a road sign indicating
Castelnuovo.
B (3 Km)
-
a tarred road, not difficult. Continue for 3 Km until you
see a furniture factory on the left, immediately after
which, on the right, an industrial complex at the foot of a
stiff climb. Take the right deviation on the road next to
another that follows downhill.
-
C (9 Km)
-
After a brief tract the road leads onto a dirt tract that
climbs steeply almost immediately without pause for 4 km.
After this first tract there is an "agriturismo" on the left
and the road becomes easy and more gradual. Here you will
find the sign indicating the convent of Cerbaiolo, a San
Franciscan site. That climbs uphill for at least a
kilometer. Continuing along own tract of road after a short
descent you come to a bridge which is the start of a tract 4
kms long of a real demanding climb. The road is quite narrow
thought the terrain is easily traveled. The panorama is vast
and broadens on a broad territory with a lot of curves in
the road. You will now arrive at two groups of houses the
second of which is on a large curve of the road. Following
the main road straight on uphill will lead you from the dirt
road to the tarred tract. We have reached the "Passo of
Viamaggio" (983 mt. s.l.m.) continue immediately to the
right to reach the main crossroad where you will find a good
restaurant, before the final 18 kms of descent.
-
D (8 Km)
The road is downhill and perfectly tarred, curving in some
places and straight in some. Particular attention should be
paid on this tract and in the next as well is the fact that
there is quite a lot of traffic, especially motor bikers who
go at quite frightful speeds endangering their own and the
lives of others.
-
F (10 Km)
when you see the sign for Castelnuovo you are at the
beginning of this tract. This is a direct descent downhill
to Sansepolcro, on the contrary if you choose to go down on
the right to Castelnuovo you will find yourself going down
tract E or A as described on the routes (map 2 A E D C B A).
Continuing on tract F will lead you down curves and
rectilinear until you reach the habitated part of town on
the left of the roundabout.
